Indiana survived a tight opener at the Big Ten Tournament without Trey Galloway.
The Hoosiers will likely have to try to keep winning this weekend without him.
The senior guard was with the team on the bench on Thursday evening but not in uniform as the Hoosiers defeated Penn State 61-59 in second round action at Target Center.
Galloway suffered a knee injury during pre-game warmups on Sunday and left that game against Michigan State for good early in the first half. As The Daily Hoosier reported before the Penn State game, Galloway arrived in Minneapolis unlikely to play in the Big Ten Tournament opener.
IU coach Mike Woodson was asked whether Galloway will be available at any point during the tournament in Minneapolis.
He said he didn’t know.
“Losing Gallo hurts, but we can’t stop here and complain,” Woodson said. “Next man up. Whoever plays has gotta give us something why he’s out there to help us win.”
Sources tell The Daily Hoosier Galloway is unlikely to play this weekend irrespective of how far Indiana advances.
Indiana started Xavier Johnson and Gabe Cupps at the guard spots with Galloway out.
Johnson, Cupps and reserve guard Anthony Leal combined for 18 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, with just three turnovers. They combined to hold star Penn State guard Ace Baldwin to just nine points on 3-of-15 shooting. Baldwin averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 assists in the first two meetings against IU, both Penn State wins.
“Even with one guy out, we always gotta come together as a team and just play together and lock-in on defense and execute the offense well to come out with the W,” IU center Kel’el Ware said after the game.
Indiana (19-13) faces Nebraska at 9 p.m. ET on Friday evening.
